Sixteen acres of green space located here in the park is all a New Haven apartment dweller needs to get fresh air and see the sky. Founded in 1638 as the master planned City Park in the center of the city, New Haven Green offered early apartment residents a designated place to gather and also housed a school, state buildings and cemeteries. Today, the park has three historic churches on the north end and on the lower green is found the lovely Bennett Fountain built in 1907 and another fountain, the park flagpole and World War II memorial.
