Subsequently, it was annexed to the United States after the Mexican-American War in 1848. When a main border crossing was built around the turn of the twentieth century, commerce and economic activity exploded. San Ysidro combines its historical past with current-day urbanization to create a vibrant and multiethnic city.

How is the weather in San Ysidro?

San Ysidro has a Mediterranean climate, therefore, the summers are pleasant and dry, while the winters are chilly and rainy. Highs in the summer (June to September) average in the upper 70s to low-80s, with rare heat waves reaching the mid-to-high 90s. Temperatures in the mid-50s to low-60s characterize the winter season (December to February). The months of December through March get the most rain. However, other months can have isolated showers. Temperatures in the mid-60s to low-70s are typical in the spring and autumn, making those times perfect for outdoor pursuits.

The closest major airport is San Diego International Airport, which is situated around 20 miles away. The San Diego Santa Fe Depot is the primary railroad station in the area, and it’s serviced by Amtrak.

With its proximity to major highways, San Ysidro makes it easy to travel to other areas in the region. San Ysidro’s main connection to the rest of Southern California and beyond is north-south Interstate 5 (I-5), which runs right through the heart of the city. The Otay Mesa Port of Entry and other roadways in the east of the county and in Mexico are easily accessible via State Route 905 (SR-905), a neighboring east-west expressway. Congestion is typical during rush hours and when thousands of people are trying to cross the border from the United States into Mexico.
