Woburn Overview

There are lots of people who are looking for beautiful places to live in and around Boston, and one of the most popular northern suburbs is called Woburn, MA. Located just 9 miles north of Boston, Woburn has become a popular place for people to live and visit. If you are looking for apartments in Woburn, there are plenty of great options available. What do you need to know about the region before you decide where you want your next Woburn apartment to be?

What is the history of Woburn?

Given that Woburn is so close to Boston, it has a very rich history that dates back to the times of the earliest colonists. Before the arrival of European settlers, the area was inhabited by Native Americans. The first settlement in the area was founded near Horn Pond during the early 17th century. The village itself was incorporated in 1642. As Boston continued to grow, Woburn continued to grow as well. Eventually, small towns began to splinter off from Woburn as the town got larger. The region played a significant role during the American Revolution, and since that time, Woburn has become a central part of New England lifestyle. In 1803, the Middlesex Canal was opened in the area, and the railroad started operating in Woburn in 1835. The first telecom line arrived in 1867, and the first telephone itself was started in 1882. Electric lines were turned on in the city for the first time in 1885.

How is the weather in Woburn?

The weather in Woburn is very similar to the weather in the rest of the New England area. It can get very cold during the winter, with temperatures regularly dropping below 0 degrees F. The area also receives its fair share of snow, despite being so close to the coast. During the summer, the weather can get hot, with temperatures getting over 90 degrees F on occasion. Given the proximity of Woburn to the Atlantic Ocean, it is also very humid in the area throughout the entire year.

How do I get around town?

The vast majority of people who live in Woburn have a car, particularly since it is located outside of the city. Mass transit options are few and far between, but there are a few public transportation hubs that serve Woburn. For example, Amtrak provides service to Portland, and the MBTA Commuter Rail service goes into Boston and Lowell. The MBTA Commuter Rail line that serves Woburn is the Mishawum stop. There is also an MBTA bus route that goes through Woburn. The closest airport to Woburn is Logan International Airport, which is located in Boston.

What is the Woburn commute like?

The traffic in Woburn is generally heavy throughout the entire day, but the heaviest traffic patterns mirror those of Boston. During the morning, traffic is very heavy leaving Woburn going into Boston, and the traffic pattern reverses in the evening, with traffic getting heavier leaving Boston going back into Woburn. There are several major highways that go right through Woburn. State Route 38 goes through the center of town, and the major interstates run along the edges. Interstate 95 cuts through the northern part of the town, and Interstate 93 cuts through the eastern part of the town. US Highway 3 runs along the western edge of the town.

What are the local media outlets?

Because Woburn is so close to Boston, most of the most popular media outlets come from Boston itself. For example, some of the most popular radio stations include WZLC, WORR, WBUR, and WBZ. Some of the most popular TV stations include NESN, WGBH, WBTS, and WCVB. Some of the most popular newspapers include The Boston Globe, The Patriot Ledger, The Boston Herald, and the Boston Business Journal.

Why live in Woburn, MA?

There are plenty of reasons why people choose to live in Woburn, Massachusetts. First, it is still very close to Boston, so people who work in the city will still be able to commute to work from the suburbs. Furthermore, the cost of living in Woburn a significantly lower than it is when compared to the city of Boston itself. In addition, traffic is a little bit lighter in Woburn, even if it is still relatively heavy throughout the day. The school system is also very strong in Woburn, so families with children will know that their kids are going to get a great education.

What Woburn landmarks should I see?

Given the rich history of Woburn, there are plenty of significant landmarks to explore. Anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the area may want to start by visiting the public library. The library was constructed in 1876, and it was built in a Romanesque Revival style. Then, do not forget to explore some of the beautiful natural scenery in the area, particularly Horn Pond. This area was the home of the first people to settle Woburn, and it has been designated a natural conservation area. Another significant landmark is the birthplace of Count Rumford, also known as the Benjamin Thompson House. He was an American Loyalist who moved to Europe at the end of the American Revolution.

What is there to do around Woburn?

There are plenty of fun things to do in Woburn. Lots of people love to explore the center of town, which has experienced a revival during the past few decades. It is home to plenty of traditional architecture, but there are also lots of amazing shops and restaurants to explore. Mary Cummings Park is also a beautiful area for people who love the outdoors. The park itself is supported by buildings in Boston. The Sichuan Garden is also a great place to explore, and it is home to the oldest standing building in Woburn.

Any annual festivals or Woburn events to know?

There are plenty of fun annual festivals that take place in Woburn as well. During Christmas, there are usually some amazing parades that honor both Christmas and Hanukkah. In addition, there is also an enjoyable Festival on the Common the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Because Woburn is so close to Boston, most of the largest festivals, including concerts, take place in the center of the city.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

There are lots of vacation opportunities that are not that far away from Woburn. Many people love to travel to Vermont and New Hampshire to watch the leaves change color during the fall. Plenty of people also like to make the drive south to New York City, which is the largest city in the country. There is always something fun happening in the Big Apple. Finally, because Woburn is so close to Boston, anyone who is willing to get on a plane from Logan can get just about anywhere in the country with a single plane flight.

Where is the best place to move in Woburn?

If you need to go into the city of Boston for work, you may want to live in Woburn apartments that are close to I-95 or Route 3. If you want to avoid heavy traffic going into the city, you may want to look for apartments in Woburn near I-93. Give us a call for help finding your next apartment!
