Loveland Overview
system and its many family-friendly community festivals. If you're searching for Loveland apartments, you're not going to be disappointed with all the community has to offer.
What is the history of Loveland?
After acting as an area where French fur trappers gathered as early as the 1700s, Loveland's official roots were established in the late 1850s, as it acted as a trading post and stage station. Less than 20 years later, the city was officially founded, partially thanks to the construction of the Colorado Central Railroad. From there, its economy was largely based on agriculture and farming, specifically cherries and sugar beets. After a series of droughts and a devastating freeze ended the farming industry in Loveland, the city began to diversify its economy. Today, Loveland is home to many tech companies, such as HP and Teledyne, and is regarded among the best places to live in the state of Colorado thanks to its family-friendly atmosphere, economic prosperity and abundance of outdoor recreation.
How is the weather in Loveland?
Loveland's climate is defined as a semi-arid one, characterized by cold winters and warm summers. Average lows in January and February are 14 and 19 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively, while summer highs are in the mid-80s. The area also receives 54 inches of snow per year, which is ideal for winter sports enthusiasts.
How do I get around town?
Public transportation is also available in the region via the City of Loveland Transit, or COLT. The FLEX regional bus route makes it easy to get back and forth to neighboring cities such as Fort Collins, Berthoud and Longmont, and an express bus provides transportation to and from Denver. While the Fort Collins/Loveland Airport is the closest aviation hub, its lack of commercial service usually has Loveland residents traveling to Denver International Airport for air transportation. Denver is about 70 miles away and can be accessed via hourly shuttles running back and forth to the airport.
What is the Loveland commute like?
Loveland is accessed by two major highways, U.S. Highway 34 and I-25, making it easy to get around town and to neighboring cities.
What are the local media outlets?
Loveland is covered by a daily local newspaper, the Loveland Reporter-Herald, and several radio stations that broadcast to the Fort Collins and Greeley areas. AM news talk station KCOL broadcasts from Loveland. Furthermore, Loveland is located close enough to Denver to receive radio broadcast signals, and it is in Denver's TV market.
Why live in Loveland, CO?
Renting a Loveland apartment is ideal for several reasons. For one, Loveland is widely regarded as one of the best cities in Colorado to live in thanks to its low unemployment rate, bevy of community events and close proximity to outdoor attractions. Additionally, Loveland is far enough away from the big city of Denver, but close enough where day trips, regular visits or even commuting to the area for work is manageable. Finally, Loveland has an exceptional public schools district serving the region and is located near Fort Collins, the home of Colorado State University.
What Loveland landmarks should I see?
Loveland is well-known for its outdoor recreation opportunities, so it shouldn't surprise you to learn that its landmarks are largely natural and not man made. Visible from the city is Longs Peak and the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Lake Loveland is also a hot spot, especially in the summer months. And just a short drive away is Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.
What is there to do around Loveland?
Aside from the abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities in the area that give way to fishing, skiing, hiking and climbing, Loveland also has a rich public arts program. Much of this is displayed in the 150-piece Benson Sculpture Garden. For a glimpse into college life, Fort Collins and Colorado State University is just a short drive away.
Any annual festivals or Loveland events to know?
Loveland is home to many family-friendly annual festivals, including the Sculpture in the Park show, which takes place every August and features work from artists around the world. Its most popular festival, however, is the Sweetheart Festival, held annually around Valentine's Day. For 70-plus years, the Sweetheart Festival has paid tribute to Loveland's Valentine re-mailing program, which receives more than 150,000 Valentine cards from more than 100 countries around the world each year. Other festivals include an Old Fashioned Corn Roast, Thunder in the Rockies, Loveland Oktoberfest and the ARISE Festival.
Where are the nearby vacation spots?
Many tourists usually pass through the Loveland area during the summer months to get to one of the many outdoor attractions in the area. For outdoor lovers, there's Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest, the Devil's Backbone Nature Trail, Boyd Lake State Park, and much more in the area. For those looking for some rest and relaxation, a visit south to Colorado Springs can offer a nice break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Loveland's northern Colorado location also makes venturing to Wyoming easy for visits to Shoshone National Forest and Yellowstone National Park.
Where is the best place to move in Loveland?
You really can't go wrong with a Loveland apartment anywhere in the city, but some of the more desirable places to live include the newer Centerra neighborhood, Little Dam, the city center area and Highland Meadows.
