restaurants and nightlife, without the high price tag of apartments in those neighborhoods. Easy access to major freeways makes commuting to virtually anywhere in the metro area a snap. Also, the older buildings offer some nice features like hardwood floors, tall ceilings and windows, and built-in, glass-fronted cabinets. However, while the building’s age does lend character, it has some definite drawbacks. The radiators clank loudly and constantly throughout the winter, yet seem completely incapable of maintaining a comfortable temperature. Be prepared to alternately freeze or broil. Also, the apartments do not have built-in air conditioning, so unless you plan to install your own unit, be prepared to sweat through the summer months. As my unit is on the top floor of the building, I have firsthand knowledge of the pitfalls of combining an old roof with heavy rain. A small portion of my bathroom ceiling collapsed due to bad rooftop drainage during a particularly heavy storm. Definitely not fun. In regards to apartment management, I have no complaints. The office staff are very helpful and friendly and all my maintenance concerns have generally been addressed in a timely manner.
