You've probably seen the sticker several times before around your apartment parking lot - bold, lovingly adorned and to the point - "GOD BLESS JOHNNY CASH". True to the words, Texans hold few on a higher pedestal than the man in black, and there is no better place to soak up his music than at the Mean Eyed Cat. Part juke joint, part modern bar, and practically all Cash, the Cat (yup, taken from the song of the same name) immediately makes its presence known with its rickety wooden exterior. Beer on tap reigns supreme, with a large variety of domestic and import suds available, although your whiskey pals Jack and Jim also make an appearance. As with any bar with a serious Cash jones, live music plays a part, and while Americana, Roots and Blues take priority, big names including Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell have dropped by to perform surprise guest sets. Decorated in down home décor with a hint of gunslinger danger (think velvet paintings, bullets and American flags), the Cat still projects a laid back vibe that keeps the curious from actually receiving the 'mean eye' upon entry. A recommended destination for both twenty-somethings and old-timers (and away from downtown traffic at that!), the Mean Eyed Cat is an ideal joint to spend some of your nine lives in.
