Italiano anyone? When you're in the mood for the finest Italian in Cleveland, get to Vivo, Cleveland's ultimate experience in Italian food. Just walking in will make you feel you're in Italy, with the velvet wall hangings, and stone columns and floors. The leather chairs, floral arrangements and white table cloths added to the primo food will take you away from your Cleveland apartment to the old country of Italy. The menu is "rustic Italian" and nears haute-bistro with impeccable ingredients and beautifully presented dishes. Start with the impressive bruschetta, with wild mushrooms, sundried tomatoes and gorgonzola cheese. Or, try the tiger shrimp, mussels or creative calamari. The caprese salad is awesome, and uses oven dried tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, arugula and extra virgin olive oil, or the caesar salad. If you're going to for go the entree and just have salad and dessert, the insalata di Mare features tasty grilled shrimp, black mussels and octopus with white cannellonni beans marinated Mediterranean style. The pasta dishes are tough to choose from, with an offering of farfalle al salmone with a vodka cream sauce, rigatoni alla buttera with Italian sausage and peas in a goat cheese-tomato sauce, and gnocchi gratinati, house made potato dumplings with parmesan cream and truffle essence. And there is plenty of fish and meat served at Vivo. Choose from sea scallops, ahi tuna and salmon, each prepared with incredible finesse for a delicious treat. For the red meat eater, try a filet, a lamb chop, proscuitto or veal shank. Desserts, as could only be expected at a fine Italian restaurant, include tiramisu, vanilla panacotta, fantastic creme brulee, and chocolate obsession, a chocolate lava cake with shavings, served warm. And don't forget to try the dessert wine or a tasty port, with several varieties of each to choose from. When you've enjoyed your pasta but are not quite ready to head home, try the V Lounge just downstairs where Cleveland apartment-ites can enjoy a hip bar with outstanding professional DJ's playing all the latest and some old favorites. It's in a brick tunnel (really) supplied with overstuffed couches and chic decor. If you're still considering a visit here, Vivo was rated as one of Cleveland's top restaurant destinations by USA Today.
