What is the history of Malden?

Malden is a hilly, woodland area that was home to numerous Native American tribes prior to the arrival of European settlers. The first people to settle in Malden, MA from Europe were the Puritans, who arrived in 1640. They purchased land from the Pennacook tribe. The city became a part of Charlestown, however, it separated in 1649. The city was named after Maldon, England. The settlement remained relatively small until the American Revolution, when the population grew to about 1,000 people. The local citizens were a part of the earliest resistance against the English, as they protested the Revenue Act and took part in the Boston Tea Party. After the revolution, the city grew gradually into what it is today. Today the city has around 60,000 people.

There is nothing like St. Patrick’s Day in the local area! There is a tremendous population of Irish-Americans who live in this region and they know how to throw a party on St. Patrick’s Day! During this festival, there is a sea of green that lights up the entire region! In addition, Malden, MA has a large Asian-American population. Therefore, look for festivals that take place during the Lunar New Year (usually at the end of Jan or early Feb), as the area will be filled with delicious food, people celebrating the turn of the calendar, paper lanterns, and more that represents the pride of the local region in their cultures and heritages.

Because of the central location of Malden, MA in the New England area, there are plenty of vacation opportunities nearby. Many people who are looking to go on vacation will head north to Vermont to watch the leaves change during the fall. Other people will also talk the journey south to New York City to see some of the numerous skyscrapers and landmarks located in that metropolitan area. Those who are willing to drive a bit farther might journey to Richmond or Washington D.C.. The Smithsonian Mall is always a fun adventure for individuals and families alike. The second is called Edgeworth, which is the southwestern part of the city. The city’s football stadium is located here.
