When looking for a cozy place to eat, drink, and converse with friends and family other than your apartment or your mom's house, try the Tabard Inn in DC. The atmosphere here, while a bit noisy at times, especially if you have to wait for a table, has comfy old couches, an a real log-burning fireplace, and decorated with style. The food here is new American, with the appetizers a tasty treat to start off dinner. Try the lobster bisque with chunks of smoked shrimp floating in the creamy soup, the chili-rubbed beef skewer or the buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomato salad, decorated with basil and crispy croutons. The entree selection features seafood and a bit of "real meat," braised bison short rib, grilled prime rib eye steak, and an incredible duck breast with duck sausage. Seafood entrees include lobster and littleneck clam risotto, seared jerk sea scallops and seafood gumbo with fried oysters. Every Sunday night is an enjoyable experience with a jazz musician set up in the sitting room for an intimate encounter with a guitarist and an excellent vocalist. Tabard Inn is also an excellent place to host a private dinner or reception. Two upstairs rooms (not wheelchair accessible in the old hotel), are well adorned rooms with a fireplace, bathroom and an upright piano in each. The restaurant itself is located within the Tabard Inn, a small 40 room hotel, one of DC's oldest, just five blocks from the White House. Here, visitors from around the world like to enjoy the old world feeling that this location provides.
