Explore Baton Rouge
Louisiana is a gorgeous state, with fantastic weather and plenty of sunny days to help Baton Rouge apartment-ites to enjoy the world around them, and there are plenty of spots in town to do just that. Parks, gardens and pavilions aplenty lie around town for you to spend a calm, relaxing day with nature, but no place is quite as in touch with the natural world as Louisiana State University's Hilltop Arboretum. Whether it's Spring, Summer or Fall, the trees of this arboretum are always gorgeous to see, with fourteen acres of beautiful trees, vegetation and nature to explore. If you've ever wanted to experience the world outside your Baton Rouge apartment, the Hilltop Arboretum gives you a fantastic chance to do it. In 1981, this land belonged to Mr and Mrs. Emory Smith, who always found that lives lived in peace, joy and understanding were the best, decided to make their land into something beautiful, that would be enjoyable for all of the animals and people who happen to spend time in it. What resulted was the beginning of what would become the gorgeous arboretum we see today. Smith studied long and hard to find out just what kind of trees and other vegetation would really make his land into something special and enjoyable for those around him, and in the end, came up with a splendid plan. His plan, and what the garden soon became, was to create the gardens in the form of a cathedral, with a large central hall, or, in the case of the garden, areas of soft, green grass, with long paths radiating from that spot, which became the many trails, lined with gorgeous trees, shrubs, and other beautiful vegetation. Many animals also call these gardens home, from snakes, to racoons, to rabbits, to several types of birds, from mockingbirds, to cardinals, to Carolina wrens, even a few barred owls and woodpeckers. The garden is a testament to the beauty and diversity of nature. Maps are available for touring the gardens, but sometimes its best just waltz through the canopy of trees and take in the wonder of it all. Sometimes you have to get outside of your Baton Rouge apartment to truly enjoy the world around you, and Louisiana State University's Hilltop Arboretum gives you a fantastic opportunity to do that, with some of the most gorgeous scenery in all of Baton Rouge.
