Golden, CO is a former gold rush town, founded in 1859. Known as the “last flat place” before the Rocky mountains, it was a prominent center for supplies for miners. In particular, Golden brought gold miners to Clear Creek and coal miners to the surrounding mountains. Other industries grew as miners and their families settled in the area. Farming, clay extraction, paper production, brick making, flour milling, and beer brewing are just a few of the most prominent industries that took root here.
