Explore Cleveland
It's creole in Cleveland at Fat Fish Blue, a fabulous Cajun style restaurant with live music played five nights a week. It's casual with jeans and T-shirts, yet they'll serve you in a tuxedo after that boring wedding or company event. Call your Cleveland apartment buddies and they'll want to join you for an evening of fun and great food. The comfortable atmosphere will make you feel like you're back in the Crescent City. When you come here for dinner, your palate will be tempted by an amazing array of appetizers to start the evening off right. The wacky appetizer menu features treats from aunt Gina with crawfish fritters, there's catfish lollipops, southern fried dills and delicious fried green tomatoes, among other tempting pre-dinner bites. The dinner menu is equally appetizing with classics like big daddy gumbo and mumbo jambalaya. Soups, salads and sandwiches fill out the less filling side of the menu with creamy she-crab bisque, pecan chicken salad, butt nekkid burger (yes, it's spelled correctly) that you can adorn as you wish with cheeses and salad fixin's, and also po' boys, pulled pork, crab cake and muffaletta sandwiches. The specialties of the house include etouffe, chicken Napoleon, bbq shrimp, grilled grouper and the incredible Robert Jr.'s Hennessey cream shrimp. Yum. All the entrees, including the bayou blackened beef and fat fish fettuccine, are beautifully served with at least one side. If you don't get enough, or just have to try the hush puppies, candied yams, or andouile cheddar grits, among other delicious sides, they can be added for a mere $2.99. As a matter of fact, the menu prices here are very reasonable, with most of the sandwiches and salads under $10, and entrees $12 to $20. Then there's dessert. These masterful desserts range from "just chocolate" almost flourless sin cake, to cinnamon roll bread pudding, and of course beignets from the French quarter. If you need to stay a while to consume all this amazing food, the scratch kitchen stays open until closing time. And when you live in a Cleveland apartment, there's not usually a curfew. A lolling bar in a horseshoe shape provides a spacious place to sit and listen to music or enjoy the full bar that can meet any libation request. It's a great place to people watch, either the restaurant and bar visitors or the people on the street through lots of front windows. The bar is a great location to watch (or perform with) live music, with everything from jazz, blues and soul ... and every now and then something completely unexpected including gospel, funk and folk. Fat Fish Blue presents local and national touring artists on stage five nights a week and Sunday afternoons. And every Tuesday is the open Jam/Open Mike night where you can sit in with some exceptional house bands and play to your heart's content. When you're driving from your Cleveland apartment, park in the public lot next door, or the parking meters on the street, or if you're clever, you can park in the garage above and get a nice discount when you present your ticket for validation. Parking prices are definitely worth it, with great food, music and service.
