Explore Denver
Denver is full of classy, unique bars, with original themes, upscale menus, fancy cocktails, bottle service and huge VIP sections, but sometimes apartment residents want to go to somewhere that has the authentic feel of a real bar, with free-flowing booze, the game on in the corner, and plenty of fun locals to chat with. The Great Northern is just such a bar, serving a number of fantastic beers, cocktails, and shots from its large mahogany bar, and where you can even grab a quick bite if you're feeling hungry. It may not have the frills of many downtown bars, but it makes up for it with real hometown charm. One thing that differentiates the Great Northern from your local neighborhood bar, however, is the drink selection. They have sixteen beers on tap, but not your usual flavors, but instead use beers from the Avery, New Belgium, and O'Dell's lines of brews, as well as Breckenridge, Deschuttes, Ska and Stone. They also serve up a nice variety of mixed pints, including Black-n-Tan, Black-n-White, Black-n-Wheat, Half and Half, Black Velveteen and the Snakebite. If you're really in the mood for your domestic and foreign favorites, you can get most of them by the bottle. Aside from beer, they also have a wine list with over 150 options, including thirty-two that are available by glass, as well a huge number of liquors, including some of the best scotches, bourbons and whiskeys. Another thing that makes this place so much different than your local bar is its varied and delicious food menu. Start things off with crispy calamari, potstickers with Maine lobster, crawfish and cabbage, scallions, and red peppers, chicken skewers, or a short stack of barbecue ribs. You can also try one of their delicious salad and soup options, including the sirloin salad or chicken tortilla soup. For main course, try their delicious buffalo kabobs, maple cured salmon, beef tenderloin, shrimp linguine, or walleye in phylo, or a huge stack of their famous ribs. You can also try one of their dinner plates, with chicken pot pie, butternut squash lasagna, goat cheese stuffed meatloaf, or their Great Northern burger, made with real Angus beef. If you want to indulge your sweet tooth, try their chocolate mousse cake, chef's choice cheesecake, Tahitian vanilla cheesecake, or their tasty creme brulee. The Great Northern is like your local neighborhood bar, with classy, downtown feel. Apartment-ites looking for the best experiences of a classy joint, with all the feel of a local beer-hole need only take the short trip down to this popular Denver locale.
