Aurora Overview

Aurora is a young, vibrant community that combines ready access to Denver and the nearby Rocky Mountains with the wide-open space necessary for active outdoor living. With its relatively mild climate, many parks, miles of multi-use trails, reservoirs, and streams, Aurora apartments offer great spots for the active adventurer to live and work.

What is the history of Aurora?

Aurora started as the town of Fletcher, named for Denver businessman Donald Fletcher, who hoped to make money selling real estate here. After the silver crash of 1893, Fletcher skipped town leaving the inhabitants holding a large water debt. They renamed the town Aurora in 1907. Since then, the towns population has grown dramatically, and it now rivals its nearby neighbor Denver.

How is the weather in Aurora?

Aurora has a wonderfully variable climate, comfortable all year round. Hot, dry summer days are balanced by cool, refreshing nights. If you have a cold and snowy day during the winter, you wont have to wait long for the sun to appear and the temperature to bump back up.

How do I get around town?

Youll probably want a car to reach many places in the greater Rocky Mountain region, but the newly completed R train line connects Aurora to the rest of metropolitan Denvers light rail system, giving you ready access to downtown Denver and the nearby Denver International Airport. What is the Aurora commute like?

Interstate 225 is the major north/south corridor through the populous western part of Aurora and highway E-470 services the less densely populated eastern side of the city. Both highways give you ready access to Interstate 25 to the west and Interstate 70 to the north, which serve as the main connectors throughout the Denver metropolitan area.

What are the local media outlets?

In addition to the many television stations, and radio stations readily available from Denver, Aurora enjoys television broadcasts from its own KDEO-LP (Channel 38) and KDEV-LP (Channel 62), radio broadcasts from KMXA (1090 AM) and KEZW (1430 AM), and weekly news from the over 100-year-old Aurora Sentinel.
