Livermore Overview

From rocky hills to sandy lake fronts to breathtaking modernized townscapes, this Almeda County centerpiece is a glittering gem of the Tri-Valley area. Those that live in the city limits of Livermore CA know that it’s one of the most beautiful suburbs on the west coast. This temperate city gives residents access to a bustling community life, enjoyable landmarks, and exciting activities to do no matter what your hobbies are.

What is the history of Livermore?

Livermore was founded by missionaries in 1796, more than fifty years before California would become an American state. Cow rancher Robert Livermore inherited a large portion of land in 1839, beginning the process of turning the land over from Indian wilderness to pastures for grazing cattle and his growing interest in horticulture. Within a few short years, the population of Livermore exploded. The ranch that bore Robert’s name became a recognized and populous trade district as manifest destiny expanded.

How is the weather in Livermore?

An average annual temperature of 60 degrees keeps Livermore comfortable throughout the year, never dropping below freezing and rarely breaking into the 100s during the summertime. While rainfall only averages fifteen inches annually, the mild climate and sunny skies ensure that outdoor activities are viable and comfortable activities in each of the four seasons.

How do I get around town?

Driving in Livermore is perhaps the best way to navigate the city. Plenty of biking and walking paths are available in the newly renovated downtown area, but residents living in quieter places will require more reliable mediums. A local bus option, train station, and an airport in the heart of the city ensures easy access to public transportation.

What is the Livermore commute like?

Arthur H. Breed Jr Highway (or I-580) runs along the top of the city headed east towards I-205. Interstate 680 becomes State Road 81, running north through the center of Livermore. Stanley Boulevard continues diagonally through the city from southwest to northeast, with access to a large section of the area. Livermore is the most populous city in the Tri-Valley area, so expect frequent traffic delays throughout the day.

What are the local media outlets?

Two popular media outlets, Radio station KKIQ and local paper The Independent, are local to Livermore. Access to other national broadcast outlets is also available.

Why live in Livermore, CA?

What makes Livermore so special is the bucolic atmosphere that permeates all aspects of the city. A big-city structure with a small-town feel, the untapped wilderness of the area speaks to Livermore’s long historical roots and rocky pastoral vistas. The people of the town are passionate about relationships with one another and the sense of community that turns a house into a real home. Livermore is a welcome respite from the alienations of a modern, fast-paced world and a peaceful haven of family, friendship, and fun.

What Livermore landmarks should I see?

Five areas from Livermore are listed on the National Register of Historic Places with landmark status. The Bank of Italy Building, the Hagemann Ranch Historic District, the D. J. Murphy House, the Livermore Carnegie Library and Park and Ravenswood Historic Site will each show a unique aspect of the town and keep visitors coming back for more.

What is there to do around Livermore?

Residents enjoy Thursday comedy nights at Rebel Kitchen & Libations, wine-tasting nearly every weekend, and a strong outdoor adventure scene for tourists. Livermore is perhaps best known for their Guiness World Record light bulb, the longest lasting in history. Apartment residents can explore the many facets of Livermore during each season and with individual preference.

Any annual festivals or Livermore events to know?

Festivals are a big deal to Livermore city residents, celebrating anything from wine and olive tastings to local Shakespeare showcases. The Livermore Wine Harvest Festival is a local favorite, along with an October Airshow held by the airport on the first Saturday of October.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Experience the best of city and country in the most populated city of the Tri-Valley, with access to San Franciso only 45 miles away. Nearby Del Valle Regional Park acts as a nature reserve with hundreds of campsites and hiking options for the outdoorsman. The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island historical sites of San Francisco will sate even the most curious of historical junkies. To the north, the Sacramento Zoo promises a fun weekend getaway for couples and friend groups alike.

Where is the best place to move in Livermore?

The best and most popular areas to live in the city center around the modernized downtown area. Look for an apartment with access to interstates and near public transportation for simplified commuting. Most Livermore apartments will have a nearby park or walking trail for you to stretch your legs after a long day, like the Arroyo Bike Trail or Robertson Park. Downtown living offers access to restaurants of all kinds simply by walking, making nightlife a cinch. Get an apartment with a roomy interior and outdoor balcony for entertaining guests and neighborhood parties.
