Apartment living in Austin can be a blast because you're surrounded by so many worlds famous restaurants, but what many apartment owners forget is that Austin also contains plenty of hidden treasure that have been around just as long as many other Austin institutions but not as well known One of these diamonds in the rough is Hoffbrau Steakhouse, one of Austin's oldest and most popular steak joints, and one bite of their food, you'll see why. Hoffbrau's opened its doors for the first time in 1934, right at the end of prohibition, allowing beer to flow freely, and survived the depression and the second world war, and the walls are lined with the signs of this place's spectacular history. The classic, rustic feel of the place is also pleasing, harkening back to an earlier time, back when your great-grandfathers were enjoying the food. If you want a taste of what Austin was like over 70 years ago, then Hoffbrau's is the place for you. The way of ordering at Hoffbrau's is different from what most Austin apartment-ites are used to. Instead of sitting down to a menu, where there are numerous selection of cuts and sizes of meat, and a number of sides to choose from, here your waitress will show you up and tell you which of the sizes and cuts of meat that are available today, and what sides you can chooses from. While some folks can see this as overwhelming, one must remember that they've been doing this thing for many years now, and the throwback style just adds to the feel of the place. If you're looking for a good meal in a piece of Austin history, Hoffbrau is the place. It allows Austin apartment owners to step into the past and discover some of Austin's hidden treasure.
