Cape Coral Overview

"Positioned on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico, Cape Coral is the largest city between Tampa and Miami. Known as ""Waterfront Wonderland,"" Cape Coral has so many waterways, it could be compared to Venice, Italy. "

What is the history of Cape Coral?

Founded in 1957, Cape Coral was purposely developed as a planned community by two brothers, Leonard and Jack Rosen. They flew over the peninsula known as Redfish Point, which is near present-day Fort Myers. They decided to purchase this 103 square mile plot of land and develop it into what is known today as Cape Coral.

How is the weather in Cape Coral?

Logically, you may expect Cape Coral to have a hot climate because it is in Florida. However, Cape Coral is even hotter than most other places in Florida. In July, its average temperature is around 92 degrees. You will enjoy Cape Coral if you like sunny days, as it has 265 sunny days a year. It rains 108 days out of the year. Six months out of the year have temperatures that range from 70-85 degrees, which is very comfortable for most folks.

How do I get around town?

You will need a car to get around Cape Coral, as areas are laid out far from one another, and very spread out. If you live in the Southernmost tip, there is a bike lane. This can be helpful in navigating the residential-only areas.

What is the Cape Coral commute like?

Located directly west of Ft. Myers, two of its 4 points of entry are by bridge. The average commute time for someone living in Cape Coral is 27.9 minutes, one way.

What are the local media outlets?

If you like to listen to top 40 & pop radio stations, you will enjoy listening to 105.5 the Beat, broadcasting out of Ft. Myers. To stay in the know with local news, tune into Fox 4 News out of Southwest Florida. If your taste leans toward the printed word, you can flip through Cape Coral's Daily Breeze while you drink your morning cup of Joe.

Why live in Cape Coral, FL?

Positioned on Florida's stunning Gulf Coast, Cape Coral is full of navigable waterways. The weather is one aspect that makes Cape Coral so desirable. If you like being oiled up and sandy, then you are living the Cape Coral lifestyle! Its natural wildlife is another cool feature. For example, Cape Coral has the largest population of burrowing owls in Florida, with about 1000 nesting pairs. These tiny creatures only measure 11.5 inches tall. While there is plenty of outdoor adventures for you to experience during the day, there is also plenty for you to do at night as well. Choose from a fun selection of nightclubs and bars, or if you prefer theater, you can visit the Cultural Park Theater to see a play or musical.

What Cape Coral landmarks should I see?

When talking about local landmarks, one has to include nearby Fort Myers. The Murphy-Burroughs House is a Historical must-see. Spend the day visiting Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve or beautiful Koreshan State Park. Enjoy the scenic view from Midpoint Memorial Bridge or take a leisurely drive down McGregor Drive in Ft. Myers to see row after row of majestic royal palms lining the streets.

What is there to do around Cape Coral?

Why not spend the day splashing around at Sunsplash Family Waterpark? Perhaps you prefer keeping it natural. If this is the case, head out to the Cape Coral Yacht Club Community Park. This beach offers gorgeous white sand and plenty of space to stretch out. When it is time to head out, take a trip to the local Cape Coral farmer's market. Get in touch with nature at the Tom Allen Memorial Butterfly Garden, and end your day eating some delicious shrimp at one of Cape Coral's many seafood restaurants.
