For one day during the Revolutionary War, Lancaster was the capital of the US. This took place on September 27, 1777, after the British seized Philadelphia. Lancaster used to have the name of “Hickory Town” and was the capital of Pennsylvania before the capital city was moved to Harrisburg in 1812.
