During the 1840s, people poured into West Sacramento in an effort to strike it big. In addition, the area surrounding West Sacramento, California built its back on the salmon industry. The current area surrounding West Sacramento, California was incorporated into the rest of the United States with the conclusion of the Mexican-American war in 1848. After the Gold Rush ended, the population in West Sacramento plateaued. It did not begin to grow again until the port of West Sacramento was opened, making it possible for deep-sea traffic to enter the state. This contributed to the growth of the region into what it is today.á

Even though West Sacramento, California is relatively close to the coast, it is not that humid. Furthermore, West Sacramento is relatively cool compared to the rest of California. It is not unusual for temperatures to dip below freezing during the winter, however, snow is still unusual in this area. It can get warm during the summer, with temperatures reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Because it is not that humid, precipitation is unusual in West Sacramento as well.
