Though Barton Springs Pool may get most of the attention when it comes to Austin pools, another pool has been getting the attention of Austinites for years, thanks to a loyal fan following and a rich history. Deep Eddy is the oldest swimming pool in Texas, and has been a favorite spot for folks from Austin apartments for generations, helping them to escape the Texas heat, thanks both the cool water of the pool, and the large trees that flank it on several sides. All these things come together to create one of the best swimming experience in town, so it's easy to see why on any particular day you can find dozens or even hundreds of people making their way to this pool, especially those from apartments near Deep Eddy. When the summer sun beats down on Austin apartment residents, they must have some way to escape the heat, and there are few betters ways to do that than to take a dip in Deep Eddy. Those lucky enough to have apartments near Deep Eddy can experience this with just a simple jaunt down the street, but people come from all over the city for the chance to dip a foot in this historic watering hole. More than just a swimming pool, Deep Eddy has become a part of Austin's heritage, becoming the subject of a number of pieces are art, including a song by Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and is one of the few spots in town that has actually been declared a historical landmark by the National Register of Historic Places. More than just an escape from the Texas heat, Deep Eddy has ingrained itself into the Austin spirit, and one cannot no easier imagine the town without it than without Sixth Street or the University of Texas. They are a lucky few, those with apartments near Deep Eddy, because they are in walking distance of one of the best spots in town to cool off on a warm summer's day.
