So at one point or another we've all had the same problem. You've got a big date on the horizon for the weekend, and all seems set. You've cleaned the apartment from top to bottom, arranged a reliable dog sitter for Yeller, and secured a pair of tickets to that happening "it" band headlining La Zona Rosa. But where to go for dinner? While plentiful and top-notch, Tex-Mex and BBQ are too predictable (not to mention messy and gas-inducing!). Real deal Italian is few and far between, while your last date's previously-unknown allergy to curry has all but scratched Indian off your menu forever. So where to turn? Rest easy, fellow apartment-ite, and let Uchi show you the way to culinary nirvana. Finding sushi in Texas is a rarity; finding great sushi in Texas is practically the equivalent to discovering Bigfoot and a Jackalope knocking back a few Shiners on 6th street. Yet Uchi is truly great sushi. Blame it on the commitment to freshness - the restaurant flies in daily shipments of seafood from the Tsukiij market in Tokyo, making it the most legitimate "Japanese" dining experience you're likely to encounter this side of Godzilla's house. The romantic, intimate atmosphere is fittingly Eastern with an Austin twist - Uchi is literally situated within an impeccably decorated old home. Reviews for Uchi are consistently off the charts, garnering raves from such national industry bibles as Food and Wine Magazine, Veranda and Bon Appetit. Local word-of-mouth is also fittingly ravenous, so reservations for that big date are strongly suggested. And though the prices run just high enough to make it a "special occasion" destination (while still being well south of outrageous), Uchi's dominating sashimi assortment, impressive wine list and rotating daily specials menu make it an experience like no other. Consider it an investment in your future relationship - with any luck, that night out at Uchi will help you score a big return.
