Write a ReviewFine dining restaurants are a common sight in Denver, but aparment-ites may need to spend a few bucks to get their delicious food at most of these places, and the snooty feel can sometimes get oppressive. One restaurant serving up delicious food, while keeping the cost down and the feel casual, is Jax Fish House. Voted as a top ten restaurant in Denver by 5280 Magazine, as well as best seafood in town by Citysearch, and Westword, the critical praise should be enough to keep you interested, but the food when make you want to stay forever. To start your evening, try one of their tasty appetizers, including Prince Edward Island mussels, tuna tartare, fried calamari, grilled blue crab cakes, or their chicken fried frog legs. You could also start out with something from their oyster bar, your choice of oysters fried in cornmeal, grilled with a tomatillo jalapeno lime mignonette, or raw on the half shell with cocktail sauce, lemon and crackers. Yet another option is their luscious shrimp gumbo, with shrimp, tomatoes, andouille sausage, red and green peppers and rice, or their late summer tomato gazpacho, with watermelon, cucumber, shrimp, mozzarella and white balsamic vinegar. For your main course, try one of their fall specialties, including Mississippi catfish, with roasted cauliflower, Yukon Gold potato gratin, and candied pork belly, pan-seared sea scallops, with roasted marrow, potato risotto, and sundried tomato gremolata, or peppercorn-crusted ahi tuna with roasted garlic whipped potatoes, huckleberry and watercress. For those not in the mood for seafood, they also have delicious maple-rubbed Long Farm pro chops, with goat cheese hand mashers, golden raisins, grilled plum jam and garlic jus, or grilled rib-eye made with Colorado's best beef. To finish off your meal, try their vanilla bean panna cotta, dark chocolate pudding cake, sour cherry-almond upside-down cake, pavlova, sorbet, gelato, or their cupcake du jour. If you need something to wash down your meal, you can try one of their refreshing specialty drinks, including fruit infused liquors, including tequila infused with pine-apple orange, run spiced with vanilla, cloves and cinnamon, and vodka infused with strawberry, blueberry, pineapple, cucumber, horseradish or five pepper. You should also try their Wonka Cocktail, with blueberry infused vodka with pineapple juice, or bleeding infusions, bloody marys made with one of their already infused vodkas. For something real interesting, try one of their culinary cocktails, including the q-coin, el tesoro platinum tequila with agave nectar, lime, orange, lemon and cucumber, or Ruby's Pimm's Cup, with Pimm's #1, absolute ruby red, ginger ale, cucmber, mint, lemon, lime and orange, or their Manhattan ajax, with orange-vanilla bean infused Basil Hayden bourbon, sweet vermouth, and angostura bitters. If you're looking for something more traditional, they have a wide selection of beers by the tap or in bottles, or you can select something from their lengthy wine list. For those Denver apartment-ites looking for a fine dining experience, that also has a casual atmosphere, and prices that won't break the bank, you should make Jax Seafood House your dinner-time option.
