North Hills Overview

North Hills, CA is a beautiful and historical community located within Los Angeles as part of what is considered the San Fernando Valley. It’s a busy area with a diverse population who mostly rent their apartments in North Hills. More than half of the residents are renters. The population is around 61,000 people who enjoy the sunny California lifestyle that this excellent community can provide. 

What is the history of North Hills?

The city was originally made to be an agricultural community before WWII. It went through a couple of name changes, starting out as Mission Acres and then becoming Sepulveda before finally changing it one more time to North Hills in the 1990s. 

How is the weather in North Hills?

The weather in the Los Angeles area is often sunny and gorgeous. The hottest month is July where the temperature averages in the mid 70s. It can get a little chilly in the winter with lows going down to the 40s-50s, but spring tends to warm up quickly with temperature being near the low 60s. Fall is around the same climate as spring, but tends to get more wet weather during the rainy season in October. 

How do I get around town?

As with most people in the Los Angeles area, if you live in any of the North Hills apartments, you are probably going to want to have a car. This is just a fact of life living in California. You can use the bus, subway, or train station to get around as well. Two different bus lines go through North Hills as part of their METRO transportation system. Luckily since the area has a bit of an urban feel, there are places to walk around the community and some bike lanes available. 

What is the North Hills commute like?

For major highways, the 405 goes directly through the center of apartments in North Hills. A major regular road is Sepulveda Blvd. If your work commute takes you to downtown Los Angeles, it’s almost 25 miles away and without traffic will take an hour to get there. Traffic is known to be difficult throughout the Los Angeles area, so make sure that you calculate extra time to get anywhere you are going on a daily basis. 

What are the local media outlets?

All the major news outlets come out of Los Angeles, including NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox. The three biggest newspapers in the city are the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Daily News, and the Los Angeles Sentinel. The radio has all different kinds of music in this major city, but the most popular station is an adult contemporary one called KOST (103.5) and a KIISFM (102.7) that plays popular hits of today. 

Why live in North Hills, CA?

Many people choose to live in North Hills apartments because it’s slightly more affordable than many other parts of Los Angeles, and the city has easy access to the highway system. The 405 freeway runs right down the middle of town. The average rental price is $2880, which makes sense because it’s just more expensive period to live in this part of California. The buildings there are charming and unique with an upper middle class feel to the area, where neighbors look out for each other. 

What North Hills landmarks should I see?

One of the most recognizable landmarks in North Hills is the “Onion in the Valley,” an oddly shaped building that was built in 1950 and is now a church that gets many visitors each year. There is also the North Hills Community Park, which is a popular attraction for families and children. They just opened up brand-new soccer fields this year with a 1.5 million dollar grant to make improvements to the park. 

What is there to do around North Hills?

In the San Fernando Valley area with North Hills apartments are located, there are many things to do. There are famous movies studies like Warner Bros Studio in Burbank, art galleries, and many shopping centers where residents can feel safe to walk around. 

Any annual festivals or North Hills events to know?

In September the Granada Hills Street Faire is a popular event that many North Hills people go to. North Hills puts on an annual Halloween Festival each October. In November, residents can look forward to a Veterans Day Parade that goes through the city. 

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

The major attractions of nearby Anaheim where Disneyland is located is a popular destination. The beaches of Venice, Santa Monica Pier, and the Getty museum in downtown LA is one of the largest art collections in the world, and gets lots of tourist traffic each year. Traveling up the Pacific Coast highway will take residents to the posh city of Malibu with lush sandy beaches, and up to northern California on this popular coastal route. There are seven national parks within driving distance of LA, such as Death Valley and Joshua Tree. 

Where is the best place to move in North Hills?

North Hills is divided right down the middle by the 405 freeway. Most people rent here with many apartments in North Hills being located off of Sepulveda Blvd and either Nordhoff or Parthenia Streets. This is located in the southeastern side of North Hills near the border of Panorama City and Van Nuys to the south. Another popular community, Granada Hills is located to the north.
