Experiencing continual growth, the city, during the 1940s, became the home for the Strategic Air Command (SAC). During the first decade of the 21st century, the city of Omaha has seen the investment of several billion dollars in new construction projects. These projects have created the active, lively city that residents enjoy today.

Weather wise, Omaha can be a very agreeable city if you know what you are moving into. Annually, the city receives approximately 22 inches of snow. In the spring, this is followed by approximately 29 inches of rain. Spread out over the course of a year, the city this does not dampen the spirits of residents. There are, on average, 214 sunny days per year. Temperatures range from a summer high of 86 degrees in July to a winter January low of 12 degrees.
How do I get around town?
Omaha, NE was the head of several important trails that people used when moving west. It was also an important hub for the first Transcontinental Railroad. This distinction earned the city the nickname the “Gate City of the West”. Today, resident travel along a well-defined roadway system. Light rail and the re-establishment of street cars also facilitate movement around the city. Eppley Airfield see approximately 400 flights a week giving residents even more transportation options.

With a roadway and public transit system, the average commute time is between 15-22 minutes. The majority, 81.4%, drive alone. A smaller percentage, 9.8%, car pool. One area where Omaha is lacking is that only 0.6% use the exemplary public transit solutions available to residents.
