Explore Albany
Albany, New York certainly holds the key to many live music entertainment opportunities for apartment-ites, as well as restaurants for every budgetary scale. But what about an establishment that combines both? Somewhere you can grab a bite to eat while catching that rising jazz star, or share a pizza before a bevy of punk rock bands take to the stage for an eardrum-rattling assault. Well grab your fellow apartment pals and take the short trip to Savannah's for just that. Quickly establishing itself as one of the premier live music venues of the capital area, Savannah's has been kicking out the jams...and the jam...for over two years. While not exactly a fine dining establishment, the kitchen is still surprisingly eclectic in its menu offerings. Chicken-stuffed Greek pitas (tossed with grape leaves and yogurt sauce) are a constant favorite among the regulars, although you can still get a regular burger and fries should the thought of exotic cuisine give you a case of taste bud nationalism. The bar selection tends to veer towards pitchers of beer and maybe a whiskey and coke, so don't expect more than a sneer in exchange for your sour apple martini request. This is rock-n-roll after all, and speaking of...don't forget the main reason for your visit to Savannah's in the first place - the live music. From punk and hardcore to the occasional blues export from NYC, Savannah's reputation for great sound and low door prices has made it a mecca of the Albany music scene. This ain't your mama's music venue though, pal, so expect the mosh pit to kick into high gear when local favorites bring the noise. Take heart in the fact that you can always escape to the safety and comfort of your nearby apartment should the kids get too crazy, although that officially and irrevocably marks you as an 'old timer'. Not that there's anything wrong with that...much.
