Austin apartment living in an awesome experience, because you're living in one of the most interesting and just-plain bizarre city in these United States. Where can you find a place to exemplifies that weirdness unlike anywhere else? Though many places may have strange waitstaff, or play strange movies, or have strange decorations, but only one place in Austin combines all those things into one great mass of weirdness. If this seems your idea of a good time, say hello to The Jackalope. The moment you walk into the place, you know you're in for something special. The grungy black walls are covered with pictures of pin-up girls, and a bust of a jackalope greets visitors at the door. The place has a habit of hiring strange looking folks as well, so expect to see plenty of piercings, tattoos, and waist-length beards, but they're all a lot nicer than they look, and the service is friendly and quick. They also have special showings of some of the weirdest films you're likely to ever see. Atmosphere may be all well and good, but what makes a bar is the drinks, and the Jackalope delivers in spades. With 100 different liquors and over 20 beers on tap, they're likely to be ready for anything you could throw at them. Also, they have the legendary Helldorado, which must be tasted to be believed. They have great drink specials, and one of the longest happy hours in town, running from 11:30 am to 7 pm. One area that most bars skimp in is food, but jackalope has some surprises up its sleeve. The bar offers a great selection of burgers and sandwiches, including the fantastic Chipotle Bacon Cheese Burger, as well Hot Dogs, Panninis, even vegetarian options like Portabella burgers, veggie burgers and salads. Also, they have a great selection of the usual bar foods, including 1970s style waffle fries, friend mushroom and friend pickles. In the mood for something sweet? Well, you've got to tried one of their deep-friend snickers a la mode. A great atmosphere, some great drinks and some delicious food are yours for the taking just a short distance from your apartment. For a trip into the weirder side of Austin, and aren't afraid of letting yourself go, take a trip down sixth into The Jackalope, a place that is truly committed to keeping Austin weird.
