What is the history of St. Charles?

Prior to the arrival of European settlers, the areas around St. Charles, MO were inhabited by Native Americans. By the time European settlers arrived, this region was inhabited by members of the Missouri, Osage, and Illini tribes. The first permanent European settlers arrived in this area during the mid-1700s. The city of St. Charles was admitted to the Union as part of the Missouri Compromise. As people began to expand west, the area surrounding St Louis began to bloom. This includes St. Charles. The expansion Westward contributed to the development of the city into what it is today.á

Even though St. Charles is not that close to the coast, it is relatively humid. The Mississippi River sits just to the east of St. Louis. It contributes a lot of humidity to the region. During the winter, it is also not unusual for temperatures to reach 0 degrees. The region does see its fair share of snow throughout the winter. The St. Louis metro transportation system does provide access to public transportation, however, it is sparse as far west as St. Charles. This airport has flights to just about every major city in the United States and the world.á

Traffic in St. Charles can get heavy, however, it is nothing like the city of St Louis itself. There are multiple major highways that go through the city. The biggest interstates are Interstate 70, Interstate 55, and Interstate 64, which is also called US Route 40 in this region. There are multiple other major local roads that go through Saint Charles as well. Even though traffic is not especially heavy, it is still something people should consider when they are driving throughout the region.á

What are the local media outlets?

The vast majority of the media outlets in St. Charles come from the St. Louis area. Some of the biggest TV stations include KPLR, KSDK, KMOV, and KTVI. Some of the biggest radio stations include KMOX, KEZK, KLOU, and KWMU. There are several major newspapers in the region as well. These include the St Louis Globe-Democrat, the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis American, and the Riverfront Times.á

There are several major landmarks in the local St. Charles area. First, the biggest landmark is certainly the St Louis Arch. Located very close to St. Charles, it is one of the most famous landmarks in the country. It is often called The Gateway to the West. Another major landmark near St. Charles is Forest Park. It was the site of the World's Fair back in the early 1900s. Now, there is plenty to do in Forest Park it sounds, which everyone to check out.á

What is there to do around St. Charles?

There are plenty of things to do in St. Charles. For example, a lot of people love to go to the West County Mall or the Frontenac Mall, both of which are nearby. A lot of people also like to make the drive to the City Museum, which is one of the most enjoyable playgrounds for people of all ages. It is both inside and outside. Finally, there's also a zoo located in Forest Park. This is one of the most popular attractions in the region because it is free. They have animals that rotate on a regular basis. Therefore, everyone should come back often and take a look at what animals are out that day.

In particular, one of the most popular festivals is called Thurtene, which is hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. There are plenty of nearby vacation opportunities for those who live in St. Charles. For example, a lot of people like to drive approximately 4 hours North. They will hit Chicago. A lot of people also like to head west toward Kansas and Colorado. There are fantastic opportunities available for those who love to ski, particularly during the winter. Finally, those who are willing to get on a plane will open up numerous other opportunities. Lambert Saint Louis International Airport is only about 20 minutes from St. Charles.á
