As a longtime swing dance fan, you've been yearning for a local establishment that does it up right - zoot suits, sexy ladies decked out like Bettie Page, and tunes from the genre's contemporary greats like Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Royal Crown Revue and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Let's face it, your apartment wasn't exactly built for swinging your lady around the room, and those questioning looks your downstairs neighbor has been shooting you have been increasingly stern, so it's definitely time to search out a proper dance hall. Well grab your porkpie, swing kid - the Fuze Box is your next destination. An Albany institution for over a decade, the Fuze Box has been hosting a Thursday night swing party since before it was even fashionable. Hip cats and sex kittens dressed to the nines dominate the scene, although even if you're new to the dance floor you can take comfort in the free lessons given weekly. Once a prime spot for live bands as well, the Fuze Box has since adopted a 'lord of the dance' vibe, exchanging hardcore bands for laid back DJ's spinning old school jams. Their Saturday 80's night is far and away the best in the city, drawing a huge crowd of denim-and-sunglasses-at-night-clad nostalgia junkies. Their bar is fully stocked and a tad on the pricy end (figure four bucks for a mixed drink), but for a joint that seamlessly blends 'Swingers'-inspired hipster cool with a bevvie of beauties who are hungry like the wolf, it's really a small price to pay.
