Originally, Boulder was home to the Southern Arapaho Indian tribe, but in 1858 gold seekers found the area, and the gold rush was on. It was part of the Nebraska Territory until 1861 when the Territory of Colorado was established. During that time, locals build businesses to support the gold miners, and over time it grew into the town it is today.
How is the weather in Boulder?
While gets chilly in Boulder in the winter, with an average high temperature in January of 47 degrees and the average low coming in at 22 degrees it's not too cold. July sees highs in the 80's and lows in the 50's. You can also expect about 20 inches of rain and 89 inches of snow.
How do I get around town?
Boulder has an extensive transportation system. Bus passes are inexpensive, and with 300 days per year of sun, many travel by bicycle. The city has bike paths throughout as well as a bike sharing program called Boulder B-cycle. There is also an international airport in Denver, about 30 miles away.
What is the Boulder commute like?
Whether you're commuting on Highway 93 or US36, plan on spending some time in the car. During rush hour a normal ten-minute drive can turn into an hour or more. The average commute time in Boulder is twenty-two minutes. Additional freeways include State Highway 157, and State Highway 119.
What are the local media outlets?
For the music lover, there are plenty of radio stations available in Boulder. These include KVOD - classical music, KCFR - public radio, KTCL - alternative, and KXBG - country. If you prefer getting your news from a paper, Boulder has a couple local papers to select from including the Daily Camera and the Colorado Daily.
Why live in Boulder, CO?
Boulder is a wonderful city if you're looking for a community of friendly people. Also, there is plenty of employment to go around, and you'll have access to farm fresh food. For beer lovers, Boulder has seven micro breweries, and those that love coffee the city is home to thirty coffee shops. In addition, rents are affordable, and you have the Rocky Mountains in your backyard. If you like the great outdoors, you'll love Boulder. Finally, if you don't have a car, you can still get around easily.
What Boulder landmarks should I see?
For those that love the outdoors, you'll want to head over to Flagstaff Mountain for its panoramic vistas. Indoors, there's the NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory which gives a great tour. Of course, no day outing is complete without a stop at the Mountain Flower Dairy. If you love goats, you'll love this dairy.
What is there to do around Boulder?
From hiking to biking to climbing, Boulder is an outdoors kind of place. With the Rocky Mountains in your backyard, the sky is truly the limit. For those less inclined to climb a mountain, stop off at an art gallery during the Studios Fall Artist Tour, or check out Pearl Street for great restaurants, pubs, and nightlife.

In February you can enjoy the Wintercraft Beer Festival as well as the Boulder Bach Festival. March brings with it the Boulder Arts Week as well as the Boulder International Film Festival. April is for the Boulder Farmers Market as well as the Tulip Fairy & Elf Festival.
Where are the nearby vacation spots?
If you need a little pampering and enjoy history, check out the Oxford Hotel in Denver, just thirty miles away. The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera will take you into the mountains for some fresh air and great views and is about a three-hour drive.
Where is the best place to move in Boulder?
When it is time to find apartments in Boulder, you need to check out these neighborhoods. Wonderland Hill and Pine Brook Hills are ranked as the best neighborhoods. They are ten minutes from downtown and you'll find a real sense of community there. Great Boulder apartments can also be found in Whittier which ranks well for those with children. Gun barrel provides a quieter neighborhood with its many ponds and organic farms. It's a great place to get out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Boulder.
