Sometimes you just want to be somewhere familiar when you're shopping for home décor for your apartment, especially if you've moved to Columbus from another city. But the always-trustworthy Urban Outfitters on N High St in the University District is a great resource for home design even if you've never visited their stores before. Their home section is separate from what is essentially a clothes shop, but it features a lot of quirky items (at the time of writing, a couple of robot-shaped alarm clocks were being snapped up by eager shoppers), as well as some funky pieces of (not original) art and humorous wall signs, and a variety of quite pretty rugs that will add character to any apartment. Since this is right near the university, it tends to be fairly packed on weekends (especially if there's a sale), and the staff tend to be as inattentive and disaffected as expected in stores like these. But shopping for some unique, eclectic home items amid some inoffensive hipster music isn't too taxing when it's in a larger store like this where everything is laid out so that it's pretty easy to find. Aside from actual decorative pieces and accents, they do have some nice light furniture pieces (chairs etc), some great collections of dinnerware, but their gift section shouldn't be overlooked, either. There's also a decent book section, and of course the main clothing and accessories departments.
