The city was founded in 1887, having established itself as a railroad town early on. The area saw many battles during the Civil War, and Kennesaw remains a hotbed of historic sites. Kennesaw State University helped further grow the city and its population, and Kennesaw's convenient location to Atlanta continues to make it a popular draw for those working in the capital city.
Officially a humid subtropical climate, summers tend to see highs in the 80s with an overall muggy atmosphere, while winters are mild and generally low on the snow end. Spring can see rainfall, while fall tends to explode in leaf colors and offer crisp, pleasant evenings.
While taxis and ride sharing options abound, most residents of Kennesaw apartments rely upon a personal automobile to get around. Bus service and rail to Atlanta are available as well, with the international airport a short drive away.
Route 45 and Interstate 75 act as the primary roadways in the city, with numerous county roads available as well. The Big Shanty Festival draws close to 60,000 people every spring, while a number of music festivals in Atlanta proper are also easily within reach. The Pigs and Peaches BBQ Fest is yet another tasty event, drawing large crowds of hungry revelers.
Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina is an excellent place for a camping adventure, while the honky tons and record shops of Nashville are only a few hours away. Athens and Macon are two hip college towns well worth discovering in Georgia, and the coast of Florida is always an option for those interested in a true road trip.
