Just minutes away from downtown Denver and 64 miles north-northwest of alluring Colorado Springs, Lakewood boasts some of the most spectacular views of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Its premier location and affordability make it one of the most popular destinations for those seeking a well-rounded living experience.
The town of Lakewood was first developed by Charles Welch and W.A.H. Loveland in 1889. Before its incorporation in 1969, the city relied on surrounding counties for public services. Upon incorporation, it was named Jefferson City, a name that only stuck for a short time. Looking to break away from the surrounding cities and make a name for itself, the residents voted to rename the city Lakewood.
With an annual rainfall of 16 inches, Lakewood’s climate is dry, with low humidity. While you can expect approximately 250 sunny days per year, the average annual snowfall is 54 inches. The mid-summer months deliver a high of 88 degrees, while January offers low temperatures in the mid-twenties.

This October, Lakewood hosted the 39th annual Cider Days festival. This 2-day event celebrates the local development of “hard cideries” and breweries. Additionally, the Cider Days festival honors the town’s farming history that laid the foundation for the community.
Hit the road west and in 30 minutes, you’ll be surrounded by mountains and lakes. Head east and you’ll find yourself in downtown Denver in 20 minutes. Visit the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where you can tour the museum or gaze in awe at Mother Nature. Be sure to stay for a concert, there really is no better place to attend a show.
