What is the history of Hampton?

First settled over 400 years ago, the area was part of the Colony of Virginia. It was then incorporated as the City of Hampton in 1849. Today Hampton is one of seven cities which comprise the greater Hampton Roads metropolitan area.

If a walk on the beach every morning is an appealing way to start your day, the neighborhood of Buckroe Beach may be an attractive area to live. This neighborhood is located on Chesapeake Bay and has a long history as a focus for recreation in the area. With recent city improvements, an apartment in this residential area may be of interest to many. Across the city, Hampton Woods, has an entirely different ambiance. If you are looking for green spaces, and more of the suburban vibe, you could relax here. Alternatively, there is the Victoria Boulevard Historic District. This primarily residential neighborhood has the historic atmosphere of old Hampton as it was originally planned as a streetcar suburb in 1888. Hampton apartments near Victoria Boulevard would be a half a mile walk to the James River and a similar short jaunt to downtown for dinner.
