If your apartment in Charlotte is sorely lacking in some great conversation pieces or unique décor, the Mint Museum is a good place to get some inspiration. The complex consists of both the Mint Museum of Art and the Mint Museum of Craft & Design, and is located right in the heart of Uptown on N Tryon St, making it easy to find. The art museum has regular traveling exhibits including contemporary pieces from New Orleans, modern pieces from Andy Warhol (including one of his Wild West collections), and classic exhibits from the likes of Matisse, Picasso and Kandinsky. There really is a huge collection to peruse here, as well as sculptures, artifacts and ceramic art. Aside from this, the museum also features Young Affiliates of The Mint, an organization that invites younger followers of the museum to cocktail socials atop the roof of the gallery. Its sister museum, the Museum of Craft & Design, showcases craft and jewelry artists' work in a variety of themed exhibits, including "Masters In Disguise", which features everyday art pieces masquerading as other objects. There's a separate section devoted entirely to contemporary NC-based artists, some of which is politically-charged. Both museums are pretty small, but adult admission costs just $6 for the both (if visiting on the same day), and Tuesdays are free. Both are open until 5pm daily and offer free parking, so there's no need to walk from your apartment if you're not from the area.
