Irving Overview

Home to an impressive number of Fortune 500 companies as well as the largest horse statue in the world, Irving is a growing hot spot of the Northern Texas region. From a solid economic base to an always-expanding industry homestead, this working-class hub is an ideal place to raise a family and expand a career.

What is the history of Irving?

Irving, of course, wasn't always the on-the-move city it is today. Founded by fans of the 'Legend of Sleepy Hollow' scribe Washington Irving (really!), the city was officially incorporated in 1914. A duo of churches, cotton gins and other advances soon followed, and by the time the University of Texas had opened its doors in the 1950s Irving boasted over 50,000 souls calling it home. Industry has continued to be drawn to the area to present day.

How is the weather in Irving?

While not directly in the notorious Oklahoma corridor of 'tornado alley', Irving apartments are nevertheless typically in for some severe weather each year. Storms in the spring can be quite strong, with hail occasionally in tow, and the summer months can stretch on well beyond their standard expiration date. Conversely, winters are mild and pleasant for the most part, with spring and fall following suit.

How do I get around town?

Trinity Railway Express overs a pair of stops within the Irving city limits, and a wide array of bus service can be found with ease as well. This being Texas, a majority of Irving rental residents claim ownership of a personal auto (including many trucks), and the nearby Dallas Airport offers international as well as domestic flights by almost all of the usual carriers.

What is the Irving commute like?

Apartments in Irving are virtually surrounded on all sides by a number of highways and byways, including SH-183, the LBJ Freeway and, not far away, I-35. The famed John Carpenter Freeway intersects with President George Bush Turnpike, and most of these impressively-named roadways can experience their fair share of heavy traffic. The commute to Dallas can be at a turtle's pace, with consistent road construction often present.

What are the local media outlets?

The 'Irving Rambler' and the 'Irving Weekly' both cater to the city's print news diehards, with a number of Dallas-based papers also readily available. Radio is far-reaching, including genres such as classic rock, top-40 and hip-hop, while Irving apartment residents can enjoy a variety of broadcast television affiliates including CBS and NBC.

Why live in Irving, TX?

Offering close proximity to the excitement of Dallas and Fort Worth while still maintaining an ambiance all its own, this ever-growing city is an ideal slice of Texas life. With plenty of industry at its door and a workforce to follow, Irving has become a popular destination with good cause.

What Irving landmarks should I see?

The Urban Towers are a must-see feat of architecture, and the city of Irving is home to a wide swath of historic homes and buildings. Take the short drive to visit the famed JFK assassination site, or cheer on the Dallas Cowboys with a visit to their home stadium. The Irving Convention Center is a massive structure that is beyond-impressive, and the city is flush with many public parks as well.

What is there to do around Irving?

Get your scream on with a visit to the nearby 6 Flags thrill park, filled with roller coasters and water rides, or simply enjoy one of the dozens of world-class restaurants that call Irving home. Shopping is always a popular choice as well, and the Dallas Zoo is a hit with young and old alike.

Any annual festivals or Irving events to know?

The Frightmare Horror Convention can be found every May scaring up the locals, filled with movie stars and collectibles for the scream queen in your Irving apartment. The Texas State Fair is also just a short ride from the city center, held every summer and featuring the faithful wave of Big Tex. Of course, holidays such as July 4th and Texas Freedom Day are both well represented in Irving, as are a number of food-based festivals and street fairs.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

The scenic Amarillo countryside and the famed Cadillac Ranch are a few hours to the east, and for the truly adventurous a lengthy road trip to Colorado is not out of the question. Austin and its famed music scene lies less that 4 hours south of many Irving apartments, and all that Oklahoma City has to offer is a weekend escape to the north.

Where is the best place to move in Irving?

Those commuting to Dallas can often be found close to the many on-ramps of surrounding roadways in Irving, while students unsurprisingly often choose to rent close to the University. Regardless of where you choose your Irving rental, this Lone Star State hot-spot is sure to feel like home in no time.
